A letter from Lance - January 12, 2009

The winter vegetables were piled high on folding tables and the friendly folks who brought them easy to talk to. I picked up some breakfast tacos on the way home, too – so good. The wind picked up an hour later and the sky got darker as a cold front dropped the temperature 10 degrees in 10 minutes and ski parkas came out of the closets in Corpus Christi. I love the Winters here. One minute it’s shorts and balmy. Then a ‘blue norther’ comes through and we get down to 40 degrees and it feels like Winter, but we don’t really suffer – a warm front follows and we are back in shorts a few days later. Standing in line at the grocery store that afternoon a lovely woman in her 60’s ahead of me had a cute pair of ear muffs on. The north wind had picked up and it was a little nippy outside. She had on a coat, but she was wearing sandals. Ear muffs and sandals – that’s what you need to be prepared for Winter on the south Texas coast.

I like the feel of 2009. And I finally connected it to Jupiter entering Aquarius. Two good reasons to like this change in the heavens: the first is that Jupiter was in conservative Capricorn all of 2008 – the worst spot for the planet that rules expansion. Moving Jupiter into a friendly sign immediately improves our ability to grow and profit this year. And the second piece of good news is that Jupiter in Aquarius opens the door to all of us to meet new people and to expand our social connections. Yes, yes, yes. When I recalled these dates in my memory, 1997, 1985, 1973-4, I realized this was when I was introduced to new groups with different interests and made a lot of new friends. And it’s already started again as I got a call last week from a woman with a radio show who wants an astrology report on her program. So, for all of us, this is a very good year – Jupiter will be in Aquarius until early 2010 – to be meeting new friends, clients, neighbors and to be involved with groups that benefit society and mankind in some way. If you are looking for new business leads, new friends or a lover, check out a group that supports a cause dear to your heart in the months ahead. You are very likely to meet someone there on your wavelength in 2009.

My stance in these tough times is to be careful with money and to stash what I can. But I’m not broke and I’m not living broke. I have quadrupled my contribution to the local food bank and tip well when appropriate. We’re cleaning out the closets of things we don’t need and giving them to the churches and needy. What’s really important to have and own? That question makes a review of our spending habits valuable. Pluto in Capricorn strips away the veneer and leaves us with just the basics – what is it that you really need to own?

“You can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometime, you just might find, you get what you need”. Mick was way ahead of his time. That’s a good mantra for all of us now.

  1. Lance!
You and Mick are the inspiration I needed in this very instance. I thank you both for that. My rock heroes!

  2. awwwh Lance, I agree with Didi. You are wonderful beacon in life’s fog, even as I was snorting at your Texas weather. We won’t go above zero during the day for the rest of the week. But these days do feel right, even as I shake the hoar frost from my hair caused by my freezing breath during our morning walk.

  6. Maybe she threw caution to the wind, packed her ear muffs and sandals, heading your way. You DO paint a delightful lifestyle.

  8. Oopps, got tied up. It’s really cold today eh Sue? 14 below midday in Brooks, ME in from Belfast, sorta midcoast. Cold enough to kill the starter on the Subaru, necessitating a trip to the garage. But the snow is clean and beautiful. And you can’t beat May through December here.
