A letter from Lance - March 14

Same story all over town as all the mesquite trees grew a light green canopy in two days with no warning. Don’t wait for Spring on the south Texas coast. He’s already come and gone. We’re having probably the last little cool front come through right now and it will only be 55 today. That’s heavy coat weather to the locals. I still wear shorts mostly, but I grew up in Oklahoma and they have light snow on the weather map today. 55 is Spring there, and to me. Plus, in two days we’ll go back to normal with a high 78 and a low of 62. The halcyon days as I call them. This is when you start to get a little tan going – the Sun’s warmth and rays are fabulous, and especially with a light sea breeze coming off blue waves. We’re still in a serious drought. And probably will not see any wildflowers this year. Dammit. If you don’t live in Texas you have no idea of how beautiful the bluebonnets and Indian Paintbrush and all the wildflowers are in the Spring time – acres and acres of yellow faces or blue ribbons pointed into the Sun. There’s no doubt in my mind the weather has changed a great deal in my lifetime. We’ve got water for the birds out both in front and back. Leslie, the Cancer, makes sure her bird feeder is stocked twice a day. “The flying piggies” as she calls the herd of sparrows and doves who flush like a covey of quail as you walk up to our front door. Doves, mockingbirds, grackles are mostly in the back. Sea gulls come by searching for food when the clouds are down low and the breeze is light. And the same woodpecker came by again with his son to show him where the stump water is in our hackberry. This is the third year I’ve seen this training flight. What alerts me is their call. Can’t describe it. But they announce their visit with a unique call and that brings me out on the patio to watch the pair fly in. And twice, I have seen either a peregrine falcon or chicken hawk fly by – turns out this is an area on the flight path of raptors who migrate. It was amazing how ALL the other birds left the area before the raptors appeared – I could smell their fear. I would have left, too.

I’ll do an hour radio program on the Phyllis King show on March 24 on the web. I do a bit on Skywatch every week with Phyllis and we’ll do an entire hour of readings and clucking starting at high noon PDT. That’s 2 pm CDT on the south Texas coast. Check out www.contacttalkradio.com and join us at the appointed hour, or download a podcast.

There is a sexy, hot pocket of energy up ahead as Venus and Mars are going to travel together in the same stage coach for three months and go through three different signs holding hands and conjunct. Mars starts things. Venus rules love and partnerships. And money. So this will be an exceptional time to meet new people and to find new avenues of profit. Children born during this period of time will have a magnetic personality and/or the ability to turn on the charm and be in the spotlight. For singles looking for a partner, get off your beaten path and give yourself the chance to meet new people in new situations in April, May and June. Venus and Mars are two magnets pulling at each other in Pisces, Aries and Taurus over these three months. You could also fall in love with a new craft, hobby, sport, art form – love comes in all flavors. Order some and get in line.

  1. I was born with Venus and Mars in Aquarius. Romantically, the last year has been off, so I look forward to your little forecast on a personal level.

Saw a few scraggly looking bluebonnets over the weekend…But we got real rain! Yaaayyy!

  4. I agree with the last couple of folks: In reading your words, I can actually hear your voice and witness your experience.

I love to behold your sweet earthy Being responding to your wonderful and watery mate, all on an airy breeze that dreams of wild flowers to come.

Spring has indeed sprung! Savor every moment, and on this new moon to be, I’m thanking the heavens for the likes of youze.

Green, rain dance and joy-of-instinct regards,

    Karena
